British Approved Names

Front cover of British Approved Names 2012

British Approved Names are short, distinctive names, selected in accordance with the Guiding Principles for substances which have systematic chemical or other scientific names which are too complex for general use.

British Approved Names (BAN) 2012 provides the most up-to-date details of these names. It consolidates the drug names included in BAN 2007, with the 57 names published in its four supplements. It also incorporates a further 70 recommended International Nonproprietary Names which have been adopted as British Approved Names. BAN 2012 becomes legally effective on 1 January 2012.
